I've been selling digital products for around 2 years. I launched over 30 online courses and manage to enroll 34000+ students.

Very important lessons have been learned during this process and now you will find out 4 crucially important skills for online entrepreneurs.

Just to bring some clarification, the term "online entrepreneurs" is too broad so you should know that I refer to "one man army" type of entrepreneurs. I'm not talking about the startups happening in the Silicon Valley.

4 Skills Online Entrepreneurs Cannot Do Without

Skill #1 - Developing a positive and successful philosophy.

If you don't master the "inner game", if you don't condition your mindset correctly, you will fail. And this is universal, it applies to business, relationships, health and more.

You have to be very clear about WHY you do a particular activity and you have to be AWARE of the meaning you attach to that activity. Why do you the things you do? What does that mean to you?

Answers such as "I want to make money","I want to have a lot of cash" are not enough. Nothing wrong with having a lot of money but is this your primary motivator? Think for a second, when things in business go down the drain (and we see that happening all the time) what kind of mindset you should have in order to persevere? Is "I want to make money" strong enough intrinsic motivation that will help you persevere?

How about a little shift: "I want to provide for my family"

And how will you do that, again by making a lot of money but the meaning is different, the conditioning is different, the neuro-associations in your head are different.

That's why we need to be aware of the reason WHY we do the activities we do... because if we attach the right mindset to the right activities our personal power will be on a whole new level.

Be crystal clear with yourself and with the reasons why you do particular activities. Strive to develop a successful mindset. Strive to develop successful habits. Study successful people. What meaning you attach to the activities you do, will determine how well and for how long you will be doing them!

Skill #2 - Become Productive And Master Your Time

Personal productivity is about producing positive results in your life. And while the topic has been discussed in great lengths, it all boils down to a simple sentence:

“Getting the right things done in a timely manner.”

It’s not a secret that the most successful people in the world are extremely productive. And the reason for that is because they appreciate one of the most valuable assets they have – their time. Let’s face it, our time is the scarcest resource we have. 

For me, the biggest productivity boost came when I started working in chunks. Probably, you've heard of the "Pomodoro Technique".  Right now I do 50 minutes of non-intermittent work, 10 minutes break and after that 50 more minutes of work.

Another important principle to follow is the 80/20 rule by Vilfredo Pareto. That's a huge contribution to the business world. Fortunately, this principle has many applications. For example, you need to identify the 20% of work that will bring 80% of the results.

You need to be actively looking for ways to increase your productivity.

Skill #3 - Master Marketing

Things are getting serious. Marketing is a broad subject. As an entrepreneur, you will have to focus on two areas that will make or break your business.

1) Product creation.

2) Marketing.

It is not enough just to be a content creator. You need to know how to market what you've created properly. In fact, marketing starts even BEFORE you create your product. A smart thing to do is to make sure there is a market for the digital product you want to create.

I've been studying marketing for around 7 years and I also have a bachelor's degree in marketing. Tons of definitions during my University years, some of which almost half page long - that's crazy. But, I found one that was short and accurate and I recommend you remember:

Marketing is meeting people's needs profitably.

And that should be your focus:

1) Identify an unmet need or a need that people have very little perceived options.

2) Create a product that is laser-focused on that need.

3) Market your product to these people.

I know this sounds simple but it's not. A lot of effort is involved here but it will be worth it.

However, the purpose of this blog post is not to teach you these skills but to point your attention. I believe in these skills and they have helped me reach 28000 people from 155 countries.

Skill #4 Learn To Write Killer Copy

Copywriting is one domain of marketing. However, I want to put emphasis on it because this skill will help you sell more of your products and make more money.

Every digital product that has ever existed (and made sales) has a description. Successful product's description is a well-written sales copy that urges people to buy NOW. Not after they think about it for a few days.

Successful products have outstanding headlines as well! Btw, headline writers are one of highest paid writers. Instead of explaining why I will quote the late David Ogilvy:

"On average, five times as many people read the headlines as read the body copy."

Whaaat? Did you say you don't know who David Ogilvy is? I recommend you study this marketing legend.

Does this look familiar?

As for your description, I've already said this is not simply listing boring features of your product. You need to turn these features into benefits because:

Features tell but benefits sell.

I advise you to use copywriting frameworks for the description of your digital product. For example AIDA, PAS, etc...

Study copywriting if you want to win.

Pay attention to the headlines you write for your digital products, blog posts, social media posts, ads, etc.

Learn to write compelling copy that urges people to take action and buy your product.

Study the most successful advertisers on the planet - that includes David Ogilvy.
